About Jennifer Kates Ramlo

Psychologist, PhD

Dr. Ramlo is a  psychologist with over 25 years of experience. She is currently serving patients at her private practice in Encino, California. She is trained to work with children, adults, families, and couples. Most recently, Dr. Ramlo began a position at the Reiss-Davis Child Study Center, teaching doctoral students how to work effectively with parents in the therapeutic setting.

Dr. Ramlo grew up traveling, primarily to third world countries because her parents believed that experiencing the world and learning about different cultures was as important  as her academic education. She has traveled extensively throughout Central and South America, Europe, the South Pacific, and South East Asia.

She spent her undergraduate years at the University of California in Santa Barbara, where she double majored in East-Asian Religious Studies and Anthropology. She also spent a year abroad studying at the University of Paris, Sorbonne.

Dr. Ramlo earned her PhD in clinical psychology from the California Graduate Institute in Los Angeles in 1998. She spent her pre-doctoral hours working in nursing homes/mental institutions that housed elderly depressed patients, alzheimer patients, and middle-aged schizophrenic patients. For a year, she lived in Northern California where she worked in a group home with severely disturbed young boys, most of whom had been shuffled in and out of hospitalizations, the  foster system, and juvenile hall.

Dr. Ramlo then went on to receive her postdoctoral hours from the Reiss-Davis Child Study Center where she had extensive training working with children, adolescents, and families. Her work also included parenting and working with couples.

Dr. Ramlo is a member of the American Psychological Association and the California Psychological Association. She is currently active within the psychoanalytic community through the Psychoanalytic Center of California (PCC). In addition to several years of her own analysis, she continues to work with her mentor in analytic supervision.  The  years of study at PCC have afforded her a certificate of completion in adult and child psychoanalysis. She has also been trained to work effectively with people who struggle with substance abuse and those who have suffered severe trauma. In addition, she has a wide range of knowledge regarding psychopharmacology and neuro-psychology.
